On this day in 2000, a divided Supreme Court’s partisan decision ended a Florida recount, securing George W. Bush’s presidency.
In 1870 Joseph H. Rainey became the first Black member of the U.S. House of Representatives, marking progress in civil rights during Reconstruction.
In 2015 Nearly 200 nations adopted the Paris Agreement, uniting the world in the fight against climate change.
In 2020 Supporters of the losing president held a rally to subvert the results of the election which Joe Biden won in a landslide.
